The Desert Caballeros Western Museum offers many opportunities for volunteers to get involved-admissions, museum stores, assisting with programs and events, helping staff with administrative duties and much more. After orientation volunteers can begin working in several different capacities within the Museum. At the time of orientation volunteers are required to purchase a $25 museum volunteer membership.
Admissions Desk
The admissions volunteer greets guests, takes admissions fees and gives out information about the Museum. Positions are available in the Museum and in the new Cultural Crossroads Learning Center.
Tour Guides
Tour Guides after extensive training, give public tours during the season on Wednesdays from 1-2 pm and scheduled tours during the year. Tour guides have more training than monitors to give detailed tours of the museum's galleries.
Gallery Monitor
The gallery monitor duties are to enhance the visitor's experience and to provide security for the galleries.
Museum Store & Ranch Dressing
The store volunteers are responsible for selling of merchandise, interacting with the Museum guests in a positive way and providing information about the Museum's programs, services, volunteer opportunities and membership.
Just for Kicks-Upscale/Resale (donations only store)
Just for Kicks volunteers help with garage sales and receiving, pricing and selling donated items.
Phone Reception
The volunteer in the reception area is responsible for answering incoming calls and giving out up-to-date information about the Museum plus other duties such as museum mailings. Plus, gardening, exhibit installation, artifact cataloging, library, carpentry, maintenance, word processing and data entry, mailings, special events, inventory, exhibit cleaning, education program assistants, trustees, museum committees and more.
