The Fisher Legacy

painting painting

The art displayed here was donated to the Museum by Aiken and Jane Fisher of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Frequent dude ranch visitors at Wickenburg’s Rancho de los Caballeros, the Fishers eventually established a second home here.

Aiken Fisher’s father, Chester Garfield Fisher, founded Fisher Scientific in Pittsburgh in 1902. It was the first commercial source of equipment and reagents for the laboratories of western Pennsylvania’s booming factories.

Aiken, C.G.’s oldest son, joined the company in 1929 and was named president in 1949 and chairman on his father’s death in 1965. Fisher products were used in the Manhattan Project which developed the atomic bomb. Dr. Jonas Salk used Fisher chemicals to develop the polio vaccine.

Mrs. Fisher was an heir to the Mellon family, renowned for its philanthropy. Their gift established the Museum as an internationally recognized repository of Western art.
