Take a Day trip from Phoenix

Desert Caballeros Western Museum is just over an hour from downtown Phoenix, and easily accessible from all parts of the Valley of the Sun.

What's more, the drive is a knockout.

On State Highway 74 From Lake Pleasant to Wickenburg, you'll pass through the saguaro covered slopes of the Bradshaw Mountain foothills, certainly one of the most scenic drives in greater Phoenix.

So, escape the noise and bustle of the city. Come join us in our peaceful desert hideaway where you'll find clean air, small town hospitality and the west the way it was meant to be.

From all Phoenix neighborhoods and the Southeast Valley:
Take I-17 to Carefree Highway (AZ 74) and turn West. Follow State Highway 74 to US Highway 60 and continue into Wickenburg.

From Scottsdale and the Northeast Valley:

Take Scottsdale Road to Carefree Highway and turn West. Follow State Highway 74 to US Highway 60 and continue into Wickenburg.

From the West Valley: Take 99th Avenue (Lake Pleasant Road) north to State Highway 74 and turn west (left). Follow State Highway 74 to US Highway 60 and continue into Wickenburg.

West Valley Alternate Route: Desert Caballeros Western Museum is a mere 40 minutes from Sun City West, 45 minutes from Litchfield Park, and one hour from downtown Glendale, all via Grand Avenue (US 60.) (Litchfield, Avondale, and other Southwest Valley residents should take the 101 Loop or the 303 Loop to Grand Avenue.) Follow Grand Avenue west to Wickenburg and the Museum.

Desert Caballeros Western Museum is located at the downtown's sole traffic light where you will see the larger than life size cowboy statue, "Thanks for the Rain." To enter the Museum, turn right at the traffic light (north on US 93), drive one block and turn left onto Apache Street, then drive one more block and turn left onto Frontier Street. The Museum is located at the end of the block on the left.

Take a Day Trip from Prescott

Desert Caballeros Western Museum is less than 90 minutes from Prescott via State Highway 89 south. This spectacular drive begins in the ponderosa pine forests of the Bradshaw Mountain peaks, then descends into serene, grassy valleys where cowboys still ride the range. And then, as the climax, the road gently takes you over "the edge of the world," a 2000-foot cliff that affords a breathtaking view of the desert floor below.

Making a trip between Prescott and Phoenix?
Forget the traffic jams on the interstate
by taking the scenic route through Wickenburg.

Directions from Prescott
Take Arizona 89 south through the towns of Yarnell and Congress. Arizona 89 joins US 93 about six miles north of Wickenburg. Turn left at the intersection and follow the road south into town. Once in town, turn right at the traffic light and follow the right lane up the ramp onto Frontier Street. (Do not pass under the railroad bridge.) The Museum is on the right.

Alternate Route from Prescott: Take Montezuma Street north until it becomes Iron Springs Road. Follow Iron Springs Road (County Road 15) through the village of Skull Valley and on to the hamlet of Kirkland. Turn south (left) at the Kirkland Bar and proceed six more miles to the junction with Arizona 89. Turn south (right) and proceed through Yarnell, Congress, and on into Wickenburg as described above. This route has the advantage of less climbing and fewer switchbacks, and it takes you through the pastoral town of Skull Valley. Both the Skull Valley General Store and the Kirkland Bar & Restaurant are well worth the stop to soak up the local ambience.
